For the love of coffee! The 5 best specialty coffee spots in Malaga
I don’t know about you, but for me, a visit to a new city is never truly complete until I discover at least one coffee brewery.
One of those places where the city opens up to you. Where the friendly owner chats away about the best coffees in the world. A modern space with organic design, kinda hipsterish, if you may. Jazzy tunes coming out of the old gramophone. A magical aroma of freshly brewed coffee is filling the whole place… All of which make you want to stay there and spend the rest of the day with a good book, feeling like you really belong to the place and aren’t just a tourist passing through.
So, let’s discover some such magical coffee nooks in Malaga.
Up until recently, it wasn’t easy to find good coffee in Malaga, but then one after another some really great coffee places opened, bringing good news to all of us lovers of a good-coffee experience.
Bertani Café
The pioneer was Bertani Café. This cosy little nook in the heart of the city was actually the first place to offer specialty coffee to malagueños and their guests.
Laura, the founder of this snug little cafe, defines her business as one with coffee at its heart.
Located on the charming little Calle San Juan, Bertani Café offers a great choice of coffee brews: Chemex, Cold brew, classic Italian espresso… you name it!
“Coffee is in the heart of our business. Everything we do is focused on providing the best bean-to-cup experience”, says Laura.
“Since its opening there’s been a huge change in the perception of specialty coffee by the locals. Now people are more aware of what good coffee is and where to go looking for it”.
Mia Coffee House
Next one on my list is Mia Coffee House, run by a charming couple who were literally brought together by coffee. Never underestimate the power of good coffee, they say!
This small but really enchanting place offers a great range of specialty coffees and a good informative chat on how to brew your coffee to get the best results for those particularly curious.
According to the owners, specialty coffee depends not only on the quality of the grain but also on how masterful the barista is.
Besides coffee, they offer wonderful homemade cakes made by Mia herself. Trust me they are impossible to resist.
“We don’t sell coffee, we sell the experience”, says Mia. So don’t miss out on your chance to have a divine coffee experience.
Located just next to the Arab baths on Plaza de los Mártires Ciriaco y Paula, this might as well be the perfect coffee place to pop into after a nice relaxing swim and massage at the hammam.
Santa Coffee
Another specialty coffee spot is Santa Coffee. There are actually three of them in the city – one is situated in the hip district of Soho, another right in the historic centre, in Plaza Enrique García Herrera, and the third next to the Cathedral.
Santa Coffee has it all, from a lovely sunny terrace to sip on your freshly made coffee, to a special coffee lab and roastery where they make sure to meet the highest standards of specialty coffee.
Also, be sure to check out their great menu with a delicious selection of breakfasts and brunches.
Next Level Specialty Coffee
Last but not least is Next Level Specialty Coffee. This charming spot truly takes you to the next level when it comes to coffees and breakfasts.
And that was the goal of José and Vanessa when they were opening the place. They bring that extra bit of attention and care into everything they do so you leave the place with a great aftertaste.
This cute little place just off newly pedestrianised Alameda Principal is truly a lifesaver for people looking for a quality coffee and a good breakfast to go with it. That is if you’re a morning person. If you’re one of those who prefer evening outings, we’ve got amazing news. These guys offer afterwork coffee cocktails, like coffee martini, coffee mojito and more.
Coffee is their passion and their life. Having moved from London they invested every bit of their energy and love into this new little venture. For Vanessa the word “freedom” defines what they do and José says it’s the joy of daily interactions with clients and bringing the coffee culture to more and more people. To cut it short, looking for unbeatable quality breakfast with organic local produce and delicious coffee? Then this is your place to be.
They say: “Good ideas start with brainstorming. Great ideas start with coffee.”
So, for the love of coffee, check these places out and let us know which one is your favourite.
