Librería Luces
Librería Luces is an independent bookshop on Malaga’s Alameda Principal.
Founded in 2003 by Pilar Villasana and José Antonio Ruiz, they have worked hard ever since to reignite Malaga’s passion for the written word. And their mission has been a success, as Librería Luces now counts itself as one of Malaga’s main cultural hubs.
The store hosts events such as book launches, signings and readings, which are advertised on their website, and has been influential in bringing back Malaga’s Feria del Libro (Book Fair).
The owners and founders have been named for their efforts as two of Malaga Hoy newspaper’s Malagueños de Hoy.
Books here are priced around the same as those in Casa del Libro, although they come with the bonus gift of supporting an independent business.
The English section is also around the same size, but offers a less mainstream selection, making it a good choice for the serious reader.
And, of course, the staff are passionate about reading and eager to help with recommendations.
With its convenient location on one of Malaga’s major streets, you won’t even have to go out of your way to visit Librería Luces – although it would certainly be worth it if you did.
